News > Club Structure Announcement
It’s been a while since we gave an update so as an ending note on the 2022 / 23 season from all players and club committee and volunteers we’d like to say one massive thank you for your support. We averaged 299 spectators throughout the season which is just superb and credit to everyone involved at our club. The first team finished a very respectable 5th place in the NCEL Premier Division and with play-offs back in place for next year without a doubt that is where we are aiming.
We have also had an amazing season in our boys and girls junior sides, we’ve a tremendous list of Champions, Promotions and Cup wins. Congratulations to everyone in all of our teams.
The women's adult team were promoted as Champions of the SHWGL Division Two - all eyes on Division One next year.
Sadly the mens Reserve side came up short, losing to a 90th minute goal in their cup final in sweltering heat.
So onto 2023 / 24 Season. Our men’s pre-season games have been shared out on Socials and we’ll do the same for the other sides as the games get to be confirmed.
We also have some personnel changes as we approach the new season.
We start with a massive thank you and Happy Retirement (if that is what it is) to Scott Briggs. Briggsy has been a stalwart as a player for the club and in recent times managed the mens reserve side. No doubt we’ll see him around the clubhouse, thanks again Scott and best wishes to you & the family for the future.
In turn this means Tom Wright has stepped up and will now run AFC Penistone Church, our men’s reserve side where he will be ably assisted by Chris Drew.
Good luck Tom who brings a wealth of experience as a player but also as manager of the Development side and the U21’s in the last few years and we’re delighted Chris is staying on to support him.
Work is underway and in place for a new manager for our Saturday development side.
The Church U21’s who finished last season on a high will now be run jointly by Will Hackett, Cameron Simpson and Joe Morgan. All of these lads are local and it’s superb to see them wanting to be involved in the development of the younger players of Penistone Church. We wish them luck and they have a wealth of support in all of the names mentioned including Tom Wright and no doubt the first team management team too.
Finally, on to the men’s first team. Whilst we’ve no changes in personnel, as acknowledgement of his outstanding role at the club, John ‘Jubby’ Whitehead will now be ‘Joint Manager’ alongside Stephen Lenthall. In turn Brett Lovell will be their assistant manager. This is something the three lads have discussed recently and it is the right thing to do, on a day to day basis and matchdays though we know the three lads will still operate very closely as they did last season.
I am sure everyone will join us in passing on best wishes to everyone named and listed above.
We wish them all well in their preparations for next season.
