News > FA Plan Next Steps For League Resumption
The FA hopes for a September start, but they have four scenarios for the commencement of next season.
Other than ruling out playing behind closed doors, no plans are fixed.
The FA virtually met with representatives from the Step 5 and 6 leagues this afternoon to give an update. It is also appears that restructuring this summer is off the table.
Non League Football cannot resume until the Government the green light.
For Step 1 to 7 clubs, The FA have said:
1. If the season can begin in August, it will be a full campaign as normal.
2. If September is the start date, no League Cup or County Cup competitions will be held. The FA believe this is currently the most realistic month for the season commencing. They are also prepared to extend the season into May if required.
3. Should Non League Football resume between November and January then Leagues will be split in half on a localised level to allow teams to return to action.
4. The worst case scenario is a green light after January which would mean the return of Non League Football would have to wait until 2021/22.
The FA hope to hold the FA Cup and its other Vase and Trophy competitions, but it is too early to make decisions on those competitions.
The leagues will meet the FA again on July 14th.
