Words By Martin Webb

Bottesford 2 PCFC 3

Attendance 101

Bottesford have had a difficult season and at the beginning of this match were still flirting with relegation. Goole's results would mean that either they or Bottesford would fill the final relegation place. Church were still looking to finish in the top 6, and had arrived with a coach load of supporters along with many who had travelled independently to boost the usual attendance.

Bottesford kicked off on a hard pitch prone to bobbling, Church won the ball back immediately, Church then went up field and won a corner, which was well cleared.

Goal 6 minutes. A great move down the left found Leon Hurles-Brook. His first time ball found Nathan Keightley whose low hard cross out to the right found Tom Charlesworth. His 15 yard drive beat the keeper low to the right.

Bottesford 0 PCFC 1

Church had the better of the early exchanges and after 15 minutes looked dangerous going forward. Bottesford were yet to get into their stride.

Nathan Keightley was set free by Leon Hurles-Brook on the left and Keightley's 30 yard lob clipped the outside of the right post. Only 3 minutes later Keightley was again set free but the keeper saved the one-on-one chance.

Church again opened up the Bottesford defence, this time last-ditch Bottesford defending sent the ball for a couple of corners.

After 30 minutes Bottesford started to find their rhythm and had a short spell of pressure. Church responded well and pushed back up the pitch, but the match was starting to heat up.

Church dominated and moved the ball back and forth across the Bottesford defence.  Keightley again was unlucky with a low shot to the right of goal.

Goal 40 minutes. Church pinned the Bottesford right back in on the  touch line. Leon Hurles-Brook won the ball and found Keiran Ryan who passed to Keightley in the middle. His neat ball out to the far side found Tom Charlesworth,  he dinked the keeper with a disguised shot to score I the empty net.

Goal 43 minutes. Keightley again was set free by Leon Hurles-Brook. He ran in on the centre of goal but his finish again hit the right post. Kieran Ryan was on hand to collect the rebound and finish low to the left of the goal.

Bottesford 0 Church 3

Church then relaxed a bit and conceded a penalty.

Goal 45 minutes. Chris Snaith got both hands to the penalty shot, but the fierce Luke Airies shot found the top right of the net.

Half time Bottesford 1 PCFC 3

Wayne Hughes was replaced by Jack Lenthall at half time. Church kicked off and immediately gave the ball away. Bottesford were clearly looking to turn the match around and pressed tight onto Church. An early Bottesford corner caused consternation in the Church defence, but some deft defensive work saved the day.

Goal 53 minutes. Bottesford worked the ball down the left. They turned the Church defence and a far post ball found Dale Hutson free in the box; his second time finish reduced the deficit.

Bottesford 2 PCFC 3

Church played a narrow formation and Bottesford found space out wide.

After an hour Kieran Ryan was replaced by Josh Brown and Nathan Keightley was replaced by Reece High.

Church held the ball in Bottesford's half for 10 minutes and looked likely to score. Bottesford came back up the pitch and made a couple of openings but could not quite finish.

The game flowed from end to end with both teams pushing hard for another goal. However,  the match became gradually more disjointed as Bottesford pushed harder and higher up the pitch in an ever increasingly desperate bid to equalise.

In added time Church defended well and the match ended with Church clearing the ball up the left touch line.
