This FA vase cup match was Church’s fourth away trip in FA competitions this season. A coach load of ardent Church fans helped swell the crowd.
Founded in 1955 by Manchester City supporters, Maine Road FC are currently mid-table members of the North West Counties League Division One South. Both teams had recently improved their results and started the match brimming with confidence.
Maine Road kicked off but quickly gave the ball away. Both teams tested each other out and Church conceded the first corner of the match after 5 minutes. The Maine Road header went high over the bar. However from. The next corner saw Maine Road put thd ball in the net, but the 6 yard volley was ruled out for offside.

Goal 16 minutes. Church failed to clear a ball down the left. Allowing cross to the far post found Lenys on the far post. His first time knock back found Francesco Frangillo in the centre of goal. His 6-yard volley beat Chris Snaith to the left of centre of goal.Maine Road FC 1 PCFC 0
Church gradually worked their way back into the game. Nathan Keightley broke free and his rasping 10 yard shot on the right shot went 2 yards wide. 

Goal 36 minutes. A long free kick found Brett Lovell in the box. His header back across goal from the left found Tom Brennan in space on the 6-yard line. His stooping header beat the keeper to the right of goal.Maine Road FC 1 PCFC 1
Both teams settled into a pattern of breaking well from defence and the match was in the balance. Church had the better of the later exchanges but could not score.Half time Maine Road FC 1 PCFC 1
Church opened the second half with Leon Hurles-Brook on. In place of Cameron Simpson. They played briskly and pinned Maine Road in for the first 10 minutes. Maine Road responded with a couple of half chances, but could not finish.
Church continued to press forward and Maine Road started to play long ball clearances, one opened up the Church defence and a low shot from 18 yards went narrowly wide. James Young replaced Ryan Johnson in a straight swap at left back after 68 minutes. 4 minutes later Ashley Ellis replaced Elliot Firth in midfield.A 20-yard drive from the right of goal saw Kieran Ryan's shot fly just wide to the left of goal. A long clearance from Snaith created an opening but Church could not convert from 20 yards. A last-ditch opportunity came to Nathan Keightley but the defence held firm. Church then had 2 corners in quick succession. Brett Lovell's header found the net, but was ruled out for pushing. Church then missed a golden chance with their last kick of the match.
